Janet Lee is General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Synopsys, reporting to the CEO. In this role, she leads the company’s global legal function. With over 25 years of legal experience in international technology, finance, IP transactions, litigation, and risk management, Janet brings a pragmatic, business-minded approach to legal leadership in high-growth, high-innovation environments.
Prior to joining Synopsys, Janet served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary at Ansys, where she led the company’s legal, intellectual property, cybersecurity, government affairs and internal audit functions and advised the executive team and Board of Directors through a period of significant strategic growth and the successful acquisition by Synopsys. Earlier in her career, she was Vice President of Legal & Intellectual Property at HERE North America, and Director of Legal & IP at Nokia Research Center. She also served as Assistant General Counsel at America Online, Inc., and held legal roles at Cooley Godward LLP, Renaissance Capital Group (as General Counsel), Clifford Chance, and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.
Janet is known for building high-performing legal teams, managing complex transactions and risk portfolios, and serving as a trusted advisor to executives and boards. She brings deep expertise in both corporate governance and emerging technologies, with a career spanning some of the most transformative companies in tech and digital innovation.
Janet earned her J.D. from Stanford Law School and holds an M.A. from Harvard University and a B.A. from the University of Michigan.
